Battle of the Tide

Detergent is expensive and Bernie thinks we use too much. And yes, the cap is removed from the empty detergent bottle and screwed on the new container AS A REMINDER.

Coco and Bernie

Coco has been our foster cat since December. Bernie is always asking "when is he going home," and Liz then responds, "I found him a Forever Home and I'll take him today." Bernie then pretends he can't hear so I think he secretly likes him especially since Coco is often the subject of Bernie Notes. Coco also likes to pose for the camera, and yes, he's only two.

Campus appreciation day

So we had a bit of a Bernie Scare the other day that involved the police, paramedics, and a trip to Cooley Dickinson. I knew everything was going to be okay when Bernie started talking about how hungry he was. Bernie is a Human Garbage Disposal as you can see from his plate above (this doesn't count the leftovers he took from our plates). And that's why I love Campus Appreciation Day. It also gave me an opportunity to look around the Mecca of Bernie Notes, e.g. Bernie's Office. Yes people: he counts his steps while running (he can tell you how many per mile) and then makes a map of his running route.

Bernie's electric company

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle is a mantra I learned in our elementary school system (word up Wildwood!) when Earth Day was an event that meant more than getting your free reusable bag from Whole Checkbook (5 cents back!). I'd put a snarky comment in here about people who speed in their Prius, but that's off topic. In any case, it's Earth Day everyday in Bernie World as it inevitably comes back to $$$ (he stopped using the town trash/recycle pick-up as he did the math and figured how much he would save per year getting a dump sticker). Regardless, He. Is. Obsessed. With. Turning. Off. Lights.

Just in case

I fail to understand the need for the note when this thermos was sitting on the counter all day. However, in Bernie World, you can never be too prepared.

This started it all

A footnote: my sisters and I pretty much grew up on campus. We have been using Bernie's parking sticker (Go. Go U. Go UMass. GO UMASS) since he runs everywhere including the drive-thru bank window that's FOR CARS ONLY. He still felt the need to draw my sister a diagram (color-coded) about where he parked the car. That's when I knew how special Bernie notes really were.
